RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES

  • Establish final exam and general academic accommodations for students observing religious holidays or cultural traditions.

  • Expand the current curriculum of university bias training to include both antisemitism and Islamophobia as distinct curriculum sections.

  • Work with Aramark to ensure that a diverse selection of halal, kosher, and other religiously-necessitated dishes are available every day at all cuisine stations. This includes stricter cooking and preparatory practices to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.

  • Similar in execution as BLM Tuesdays, GUSA will launch weekly social media newsletters to elevate the on-campus experiences and cultures of the religious communities at Georgetown.

  • Push to integrate interfaith education & intersectionality into the framework of student advocacy within GUSA.

  • Increase the overall funding and staffing capacities for all religious centers and programs on-campus such as Makom and Masjid. Emphasis must be put on each program or center’s ability to host communal/cultural events and activities virtually, throughout the course of distance learning.

  • Support the Center for Jewish Civilization, and push Georgetown University to establish other religious educational centers with similar resources. While there are departments and certificate programs for many religions, cultural-educational centers fill a fundamentally different purpose, and therefore must also be invested in.

  • Work with New Student Orientation to broadly advertise GUish interns and other interfaith peer mentorship programs to incoming first-year students. This can include program information being incorporated into NSO materials, first-year student discussions, and more.

  • Ensure that JSA and all other Jewish-based advocacy organizations receive our administration’s material and institutional support in all future policy initiatives. Proactive, not reactive, solidarity in the face of antisemitism is nonnegotiable. This solidarity must also extend to all religious communuties at Georgetown.
